The decreased cost of adoption and ease-of-use of modern publishing technology\u00a0provides the capabilities for businesses to manage and leverage content in new and exciting ways. This is pretty important in today\u2019s &#8220;customer experience&#8221;\u00a0world where the modern consumers is\u00a0researching and grading companies\u00a0through\u00a0the content you publish online!\u00a0According to a study from <span class=\"Hyperlink CharOverride-4\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mycustomer.com\/blogs-post\/help-your-customers-help-themselves\/169766\">Detecon<\/a>,<\/span>\u00a078% of consumers polled embrace online self-service.\u00a0While 60% of respondents\u00a0use customer self service as a criterion with which to judge a brand. \u00a0This new era has marketing groups excited about what\u2019s possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dollars\u00a0for\u00a0data-bytes<br \/>\n<\/strong>This might be a generalization, but IT departments get budget. Enterprise budgets are being allocated\u00a0to new content projects which include technology components such as XML Editor(s), Component Content Management systems (CCMS), and Publishing systems. Lots of dollars here for technology! \u00a0However,\u00a0very few, if any of these initiatives, have assigned budget for an evaluation of the content itself.\u00a0 The perception is that you can take your exiting content and move it to a new technology platform\u00a0and <em>voila<\/em> &#8230; content reuse, multi-channel publishing, and\u00a0translation management, right?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking at the content itself<\/strong><br \/>\nSo what do I mean by \u201cthe content itself\u201d? Well content has typically been written in a sequential fashion: \u201cOnce upon a time\u2026.happily ever after\u201d. Chapters, sections, subsections, etc, have produced a flow whereby each section requires an understanding of what\u2019s come before. With modern technology, the objective is to write Topics that can stand alone. This requires a different writing method, and sadly, budget is missing for this.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s your budget for content strategy?<\/strong><br \/>\nAny successful content project requires a content strategy focusing on the\u00a0content itself. For example, we typically start with a content audit and find duplication, conflicting terminology, different writing styles, verbose explanations, and walls-of-words that is difficult for audiences to consume and use effectively.\u00a0 This is a very good time to consider the proper transformation of your content to fit the technology and the human brain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Precision Content\u2122 framework<\/strong><br \/>\nConsider your content strategy carefully.
